The Tesla Cybertruck comes in any color you like, as long as it’s unpainted stainless steel. That said, the automaker has offered factory wrap options for a while now, though they’ve been out of stock since shortly after their introduction. It appears the automaker is cutting the option altogether, as Drive Tesla Canada and InsideEVs recently noticed the wraps’ disappearance from Tesla’s site.
Before anyone starts talking about how this means the Cybertruck is dead in the water, there are a few reasonable explanations for why this could happen. The fact that the wraps have been unavailable for the better part of a year suggests that Tesla never really figured out the supply chain around them or that it’s seeing shortages of the materials needed to make them.
It’s also possible that there just aren’t enough Cybertruck buyers for Tesla to continue offering the wraps. Wait times for the trucks have decreased in recent months to the point that it’s now possible to place an order and have a Cybertruck by Christmas.
Despite that, the Cybertruck managed to become the third-best-selling EV in the United States. While early buyers spend well north of $100,000, the truck can now be had for around $80,000 before options, far from affordable but in line with the competing electric trucks on sale. Neither of the available variants is eligible for federal tax credits, though leasing remains a workaround for some buyers.
