Sony-Honda Reveal Pricing and Release Details for the Afeela EV

The Sony-Honda partnership is one that still sounds odd, even after a few years and plenty of news on the subject. The pair announced a joint effort to develop new electric vehicle models and have shown prototype units on several occasions. This year’s CES is bringing more talk about the duo’s first car, the Afeela, as it received pricing and more details about its specifications at the event.

Starting prices for the upcoming Afeela land at $102,900 for the Signature series, the only version available at launch, scheduled for mid-2026. A lower-priced Origin variant will come later in 2027 with a price tag starting at $89,900, and buyers can sign up for a reservation online for a refundable $200 deposit.

Sony-Honda has promised other EVs, including lower-priced models and an SUV at some point, but the Afeela’s launch specs won’t be cutting-edge when it arrives. It gets two electric motors with a combined 480 horsepower, and its range maxes out at around 300 miles. Its charging speeds can only reach 150 kW, slow by today’s standards and almost undoubtedly ancient by the standards set in 2026 and beyond.

Those numbers will likely disappoint some, but the Afeela is clearly targeted at a different audience. Sony’s involvement means loads of tech, including advanced automated driving assistance features, AI integration, and video game functions. Whether that’s enough to entice buyers at a $100k-plus price remains to be seen, but it looks like a tough sell from here.
