Well, that was just about the darn cutest episode of Elsbeth so far. While many of us probably had to suspend our belief in reality, it was all worth it to see our favorite Chicago attorney light up right there at the end.
There were a few things that seemed a little farfetched for even a series as campy as this one.
For instance, Scotland is five hours ahead of New York City, yet there were no differences in the sunshine.
It may seem like I’m picking on this episode of Elsbeth, and while I am a little, it was also the first thing that stuck out to me as a tad too convenient.
Still, there were so many adorable moments for just about every character that I don’t even care that there were quite a few instances that veered away from reality.
There were quite aspects of the plot on “Tiny Town” that were sacrificed for the sake of giving every character enough screen time.
Listen, before we get into this, let me make it clear that I absolutely love this series and everything about it.
What other show can give the kind of physical comedy Elsbeth is capable of by spraying herself right in the eye with perfume? The pratfalls and knocking into things were a little ham-fisted but hilarious nonetheless.
However, being a TV Fanatic means noticing things that most people let slide by. As far as murder cases go on CBS‘s Elsbeth, this one fell rather flat with not much to show for it.
First, it wasn’t a “howcatchem,” and it was barely a “whodunnit.” The murder scene was way too implausible.
I know New York City is a bustling town of fasting-walking residents, but not a single person noticed the victim flailing on the ground for five minutes.
For that matter, no one was bothered by the victim and her psycho boyfriend arguing before that moment.
I could understand if it were right by heavy traffic or near an intersection, but come on.
Speaking of the boyfriend, if someone reaches the point in a relationship where they are going through the other person’s phone because they turned off their shared-location services, the relationship is already dead on arrival.
Also, and I hate to say this because Elsbeth could’ve been hurt, but did anyone else think the ending of the case felt rather rushed and anti-climactic?
At this point, it goes without saying that Elsbeth is not the kind of person to back down or roll over when someone tries to intimidate her.
She showed just how tough she is on Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 10 when she took down Van Ness. She’s also never afraid to confront the suspect she believes to be the killer in private, and the cops aren’t always on their way.
In Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 1, she confronted Stephen Moyer‘s Alex Modarian in his office and might as well have flat-out called him the killer.
So, why was she so rattled when she was alone with the killer at the end of this episode? If I had to venture a guess, it was probably so Ioan Gruffudd could save the damsel in distress by calling in Wagner and Kaya.
Still, I can overlook it because we finally saw Elsbeth find a little romance in her rather solitary life.
And, of course, he was a fireman.
I have one more thing to question because this Valentine’s Day episode had so many funny and adorable moments.
Raise your hand if you immediately knew Angus (Ioan Gruffudd) was on a plane when Elsbeth couldn’t get him on the phone again.
Logically, what other reason could there be, considering how many times she told the Scotsman that he needed to visit New York City?
The writing was very obvious and predictable but oddly relatable in a couple of instances.
Some of you might have thought it was way too farfetched for Angus to jump on a plane and head over to New York City just to see Elsbeth (Carrie Preston).
Well, it’s more common than you think. Who hasn’t been caught in the throes of young love?
Those tickets from Europe to America aren’t that expensive either if you leave in the middle of the week.
If there is ever a time to go all out for the one you love, it’s Valentine’s Day — just ask Captain Wagner.
Who knew the head of the precinct was such a romantic underneath all those deadpan grunts?
That man spent five weeks learning a couple of steps just to surprise Claudia with a night she will never forget.
We also saw the disturbingly good-looking Adam Kaplan, who played Rob, the dance instructor, on Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 7.
That’s the one where Keegan-Michael Key‘s character got his new son-in-law drunk and then drowned him after the reception of his own wedding. This series is wild.
It is so wild that Officer Blanke is living with her crush as they both develop feelings for each other. I honestly don’t know how to feel about that.
Is it more or less weird for their budding romance if they are always just one room away from each other?
Moving in together too soon can spell the death of a relationship, but what about when the two people haven’t even been on a date yet?
I’ve personally never been in a situation like that, so if someone has experience that they can speak on, please share in the comments.
All in all, this was a really cute episode.
I just don’t understand why Elsbeth had to order her romance from overseas when there are a crazy number of hot firemen right there in New York City who are not shy about their attraction to her.
And while Michael Emerson‘s Judge Milton has been absent since Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 8, at least Wagner let Elsbeth know he has her back by getting the murder case on “Toil and Trouble” reopened.
It almost seems like “Tiny Town” was softening viewers up for the tornado of crazy drama that could be rolling through town during the next couple of episodes.
This may not have been the most exciting or adventurous hour of Elsbeth Season 2, but it still gave me goosebumps when Angus came around The Iris playing a tune just for Miss Tascioni.
He’s going to move to New York City now, right?
What did you think of the latest murder case?
Did all of the adorable moments cancel out the suspension of reality for you, too?
