If there is one area of Fire Country in which fans have established their investment, it’s in Bode and Gabriela’s ill-fated relationship. However, those days could be far behind us now.
Ever since the series introduced Audrey, we’ve slowly watched the possibility of Bode and Gabriela giving things another shot disappear.
However, let’s not get it twisted. Bode and Gabriela had problems long before the newest blonde probie joined Cal Fire.
Since the start of Fire Country, the show has managed to keep the “will they, won’t they” between Bode and Gabriela alive and well.
However, some would say the series kept that romance going well past its expiration date.
That said, “Bodriela” had many great moments, and we can’t sweep those under the rug for the sake of the story.
Gabriela and Bode Had a Great, Albeit Long, Run, But It’s Time to Say Goodbye to the Relationship That Never Was
It seems like a lifetime ago since Bode met Gabriela on the road outside of Three Rock on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 1.
Since then, the two have weathered one catastrophe after another, from cars hanging over bridges to the death of a fellow inmate. Those two crazy kids have been through just about everything.

Although, do you know what they haven’t had much experience with? Building a happy and healthy relationship.
Were there sparks? Enough to start a bonfire, but passion was never the area in which Bode and Gabriela needed help.
If you recall from the premiere season of Fire Country, the heat between Max Theriot’s (SEAL Team) Bode and Gabriela was so intense that Jake took notice and tried to douse the flame, but it was too late.
Gabriela hopped from one Edgewater hometown hero to another. To add insult to injury, Bode and Gabriela never even went on an actual first date.
That’s right, for everything that “Bodriela” endured, fun dates were never one of them. The couple went from sneaking around to pushing each other away to protect one another.
They had all the right ingredients for a spicy romance, but things just never quite got off the ground.

In that sense, I can see why so many other viewers want to see Stephanie Arcila’s (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels) Gabriela and Bode together.
If for no other reason than to see a return on their investment in a relationship that never was.
Bode and Gabriela hooked up all of one or two times before she suddenly got hitched to Diego. Even then, Bode and Gabriela couldn’t even manage a healthy friendship.
Given how quickly their chemistry is heating up, “Bodrey” might surpass “Bodriela” in a few intimate milestones.
For Once, Fire Country Is Depicting a Healthy and Normal Courtship That Isn’t Sped Up for the Sake of Plotting
I feel for the fans who have been holding out hope for Bode and Gabriela — I really do. But, come on. There’s no denying the incredible chemistry that has been building between Bode and Audrey.

For one thing, out of every other couple of Fire Country, they have had, by far, the most organic courtship.
Usually, broadcast shows will bring in a character meant to be a romantic interest and just throw them right at the target.
That’s exactly what’s happening with Gabriela and Finn, who first came on during Fire Country Season 3 Episode 14.
Before the episode was even up, the newly introduced character was already putting the moves on Miss Perez.
However, that has absolutely not been the case with Audrey. In fact, it seemed like Bode and Audrey were headed for an antagonistic type of relationship.
On “Fire Squad,” Audrey wasn’t exactly subtle about her thoughts on Bode, basically skipping the line into the Cal Fire training program.

Believe it or not, that wasn’t that many episodes ago. Since then, Audrey and Bode have weathered several calls and come out of each one closer than they went in.
Things finally came to a head on Fire Country Season 3 Episode 9, when Bode saved Audrey from drowning while they used a pool to protect themselves from a raging inferno.
Now, I actually take issue with this because it was Bode’s fault he and Audrey got caught in the blaze in the first place.
That is why it might be better if Bode stays single.
There Is One Thing Fire Country’s Protagonist Needs, and It Is Not Another Girlfriend, Despite How Great Audrey and Bode Are Together
You may think, “We’re here to talk about Bode’s love life, and that requires a romantic interest.” Does it, though?

One thing that Fire Country Season 3 has managed to sneak into the plot is all the personal story arcs.
Almost every character has their own journey going on, with Gabriela on the most obvious path of self-discovery.
It’s been amazing watching Gabriela look inward at the woman she wants to be. Bode desperately needs that.
If you’ve kept up with the Fire Country Reviews, you know I’ve suggested on more than one occasion that what Bode needs more than anything is therapy.
Get that man to a psychologist immediately. I am all for Bode and Audrey’s beautiful budding romance, but that will only treat the symptoms and not the source.
Bode has been on history’s longest downward spiral. He never got the help he should’ve after Riley died. Even though he’s mostly moved on, from time to time, his issues still pop up.

Most recently, on Fire Country Season 3 Episode 12, Bode took the loss of a patient to heart, and it brought up all the unresolved emotions from Riley’s death.
Bode in love is beautiful, but until he gets the therapy that he needs, the character will always be one stressful moment away from making another bad decision.
The show has done a good job of burying it, but we viewers have not forgotten that Bode has a drug problem always lingering in the air waiting to come crashing down.
Either way, wherever Bode’s path leads, it will likely be to a woman who can help him be the kind of man he so badly wants to be.
It could be Audrey, who can see past Bode’s walls and keep him on track. Or, it could be Gabriela after she’s finished evolving.

Ultimately, it all comes down to who or what the healthiest option for Mr. Leone is. In a town like Edgewater on a show like CBS‘s Fire Country, the winds could change at any moment.
Who or what do you think is the best option for Bode?
Do you think Bode’s drug use could come back into play at some point?
