Ford had the biggest — and perhaps only — splash at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show with the Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America.
This car is meant to honor Ford’s racing history, whether it’s the 1964 Tour de France win or the time a Mustang became the first American model to lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes.
Unfortunately, it’s mostly an appearance package with racing stripes that mimic the 1964 Mustang logo. They’re also a nod to Craig Breedlove’s land-speed record runs.
That said, the Performance Package is standard and the car gets exposed carbon fiber elements and some unique-to-this-model exterior bits.
The rear wing is marked with “MUSTANG” and the interior gets unique seats and stitching. Red brake calipers are standard and titanium interior bits are available.
As with any other GTD, the car has 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 202 miles per hour.
UPDATE: Ford also brought out the Mustang RTR at the GTD unveil event. There are no specs to speak off yet, but we know it has the EcoBoost engine — or, rather, a hopped-up version of it. We also know it’s available with the electronic drift brake that helps drivers, uh, drift.
