Four-way ‘bat off’ for Australia’s opening Test spot runs cold as contenders fail to fire

Australia are no closer to landing on the opener to partner Usman Khajawa in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series after three of the leading contenders failed to grasp their opportunity on day one of the match against India A in Mackay.

Sam Konstas and Cameron Bancroft were both dismissed for a duck in huge blows to their Test hopes, while Marcus Harris could not capitalise on a promising start and a second life when caught for 17.
