Every year, the holidays give us a time to think about all the things we’re grateful for: Our cherished family and friends; our vibrant communities; and the good food we lovingly cook and enjoy. This year more than ever, we’re counting our own blessings, and taking extra care to spread joy, cheer, and kindness to those around us. And we know that we can always count on you—our incredible community of home cooks and homebodies—to give back alongside us.
Year in and year out, you’ve participated in our annual Holiday Swap, which supports a charity partner dear to us while bringing Food52ers even closer together at this special time of year. In 2020, we’ve once again partnered with No Kid Hungry for that initiative, and we couldn’t be more thankful for your chipping in to make that support go even further.
If you’re not familiar with the organization, the name says it all: No Kid Hungry aims to end childhood hunger. And especially in a year like this one, when already-hungry communities are even more greatly affected by COVID-19, the organization’s mission is more important than ever.
As they explain of their motivation and efforts: “No child should go hungry in America. But in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, 1 in 4 kids could face hunger this year. No Kid Hungry is working to end childhood hunger by helping launch and improve programs that give all kids the healthy food they need to thrive. This is a problem we know how to solve. No Kid Hungry is a campaign of Share Our Strength, an organization committed to ending hunger and poverty.”
Their work to change that has been nothing short of amazing. This year alone, the organization has sent $41.5 million in emergency relief to more than 1,380 schools and community groups across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and Guam. These funds, and No Kid Hungry’s hands-on guidance, are helping them serve millions of meals a day during this crisis. And with your help, there’s still so much more that can be done.
