The Polar Vortex is freezing out half the country, but things are scorching hot on Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 9.
Unfortunately, they’re also devastating as the shocking events of Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 8 could leave two of Grey Sloan Memorial’s finest fighting for their lives.
After a midseason finale that left our jaws on the floor (not to mention both Jo and Lucas bloodied), we’re preparing for an epic return of the series.
Whose Life is Hanging in the Balance After the Convenience Store Shooting?
You have to hand it to Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 for its ability to have callbacks in a series that’s legally old enough to drink.
And drinking is what some of us may do when we tune in and have to face the reality that the shooter shot Lucas and/or Jo.
The second they placed Baby Shep in a convenience store, memories of Amelia and Derek’s experience with their father came to mind.
As a result, Lucas’ position has some of us grinding our teeth, and thanks to the promo for the midseason premiere, Lucas is likely on the bad end of a bullet.

The problem is we don’t know how severe his injuries are and where he got shot.
He was trying to play hero and save Jo and her twins, and it didn’t pan out how any of us would want.
Lucas’ State Will Send Amelia and Simone Reeling
The promo teases that he’ll be wheeling into Grey Sloan. We don’t know how bad things are for him, but the news rocks everyone around.
Amelia hears about her nephew, and she’ll likely have some PTSD from the memories of what she endured. She’ll worry about him, too.
Meanwhile, Simone is caught off guard that the man she loves could be fighting for his life.

The images depict some shock for her, but this could also reflect her learning more about Mika’s departure.
Mika’s Absence Sends Jules into Focus-Mode
We love an avoidant Queen.
Jules is heartbroken that Mika left the hospital, even if it’s understandable why she needed to get away.
It’s something that’s troubling her, and Blue has taken notice of it.
But Jules pours herself into work, focusing on a case she’s working with a disgruntled Webber.

Perhaps Webber and Jules’ pairing is for the best, as they both aren’t in the best of situations right now.
Jules is upset about Mika, and Webber is in his feelings about Mer keeping Catherine’s prognosis for him.
He even goes as far as to say he’ll stop walking away from her when she disappoints him.
Dad is mad, my friends!
Quarreling is so deeply ingrained in Grey’s Anatomy that we won’t even have one to contend with during the premiere.
Amelia and Winston Butt Heads … More
Amelia and Winston are at odds with one another after Skye dies on the table.

This pair always quibbles like siblings or future lovers, and I can never tell which direction the show wants to take them in.
We may keep hope alive regarding Skye since we also see images of Winston spending time with Julia, Skye’s mother, in the hospital chapel.
Does that mean Skye may have a fighting chance if she’s praying?
We’ll have to tune in to learn more about that.
Jo and the Twins’ Fate is Up in the Air, and Link is DEVASTATED

Speaking of fighting chances, Link faces one of his biggest challenges to date with the love of his life, and future babies are fighting for theirs.
If Lucas is the one shot, does that mean that Jo is instead battling a maternal crisis that places her babies in jeopardy?
Nothing good comes from bleeding when one is pregnant, and the glimpse of her in the promo shows her holding her side as they wheel her in while looking agonized.
Many images also show a worried Link, as he’s still scrubbed up but processing his loved ones’ future.
Fortunately, Bailey is there to give him the pep talk and support he needs.
Bailey Supports Link Through Familiar Experience

If anyone can help him through such a terrifying and challenging situation, it’s Bailey.
She knows the specific pain of losing a child herself after a miscarriage, so she’s comforting simply by understanding the fear and experience.
It’s the most compelling moment we see in the promo and the stills, and we can only hope we’ll have a happy outcome.
Jo has been through enough as it is.
Cheat, Cheat, Cheaters … Towen is at It Again!

Unfortunately, Grey’s Anatomy will never take us off the Towen train(wreck).
Owen is totally going to bone his former childhood friend, Nora, right?
These two treat infidelity like it’s an Olympic Sport, and they always take him the gold.
To the disinterest of everyone, we likely have more Teddy and Owen marriage angst on the horizon as they face yet another battle.
“Yay,” I mutter unenthusiastically under my breath.
Anyhow, we’ve revealed what to expect during the midseason premiere.
Now, we want to hear your thoughts, theories, and reactions.
