Honda Recalls Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles for Faulty Fuel Pump Issue

Honda has a major recall on its hands. The automaker is pulling back more than 720,000 vehicles for an issue with the high-pressure fuel pump that can cause leaks and increase the risk of fire. Impacted models come from the 2023 through 2025 model years.

Honda’s recall affects the Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid from 2023 and 2024, the 2025 Civic and Civic Hybrid, and the 2023 to 2025 CR-V Hybrid. Recall documentation states that the fuel pumps were manufactured by the Japanese company Hitachi Astemo and were built improperly, leading to the leak risk. The problem is significantly more common in lower-mileage vehicles, and the automaker said owners may notice a fuel odor in the vehicle if the issue is present.

Honda said it had seen 145 warranty claims related to the problem, but no injuries or deaths have been reported. Owners will receive a recall notification by mail, and a dealer will replace the fuel pump with a revised component if the issue exists. The recall stated that replacement parts have updated “solenoid core components with improved dimensions, inner diameter machining, and baking conditions.”

The automaker advised owners to “take them (the vehicles) to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification.” Though this recall impacts a large number of vehicles, the models on the list have been relatively recall-free, with the CR-V Hybrid only registering two so far and is the first for the 2025 Honda Civic.
