Kia EV9 Recalled for Potentially Missing Seat Mounting Bolts

Kia is recalling 22,883 2024 and 2025 EV9s for an error at one of its assembly plants that could cause the SUV’s second- and third-row seats to be missing mounting bolts. Since the seats bear much of the impact force during a crash, an improperly mounted seat could break loose, causing significant injury. Passengers may notice a loose seat or a rattling sound if the vehicle is affected by the issue.

Kia will notify owners by the end of January, but people who have one of the affected models can check with a Kia dealer sooner than that for a fix. The dealer will inspect the seats to verify all bolts are properly installed.

The EV9 debuted for the 2024 model year to mostly positive reviews, with critics praising its interior space, acceleration, and styling. Despite that, the SUV has accumulated six recalls in its short time on sale, including one in May 2024 for a loose seatbelt retractor cover, one in June for inadequate headliner impact protection, and one in September for a failure of the Remote Smart Parking Assist system.
