Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 6 spoilers have Benson advocating for a victim on life support.
If this sounds familiar, it is. Law & Order Season 24 Episode 4 focused almost exclusively on whether a woman kept alive only by machines could be considered dead for legal purposes.
The story will be different, of course, and it’ll be interesting to find out how.
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 6 Spoilers Have Benson Again Working With The FBI’s Agent Clay
Benson is called in on this case when FBI Agent Clay needs help finding a perp who could be anywhere on the Eastern Seaboard.
In case you’ve forgotten who Clay is, he was the FBI agent that Benson initially contacted when she was looking for Maddie Flynn.
Hopefully, that doesn’t mean a resurgence of that awful, screen-eating storyline or of the equally annoying Agent Sykes, who stormed away in a huff after Benson found out the truth about what happened to her missing sister!
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 6 spoilers only mention Clay, so he probably has only a small part, similar to the uniformed cops who usually introduce the crime of the week.
In this case, he calls in Benson after finding an attack victim on the ground at a remote campsite. According to the next episode trailer, the woman was there with her boyfriend, and they were both attacked.
The man (Graham Patrick Martin, whom I loved on Major Crimes) is all right but has no memory of the attack; his partner is on life support, leading to a compelling conflict.
This Seems Like A Great Time For A Crossover That Probably Won’t Happen
The ship sailed on a crossover between Law & Order: SVU and the FBI franchise, which have been established to be in the same universe despite being on different networks.
However, this seems like a perfect set-up for another crossover with Law & Order.
Benson didn’t part on great terms with Price and Nolan, but considering that they just had a similar case, it’s time to mend fences — or try to.
Although this episode probably won’t focus exclusively on the issue of brain death vs death, Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 6 spoilers include the victim’s distraught mother confiding in Benson that the hospital wants to take her daughter off life support.
I’m not sure what power Benson has in the situation, but clips depict her visiting the patient, and the woman squeezes her hand.
Unlike on Law & Order Season 24 Episode 4, there may be a miracle in store here, which would have been more evidence for that bizarre expert witness in that case who claimed brain dead doesn’t necessarily mean all hope is lost.
The issue of whether or not the woman should remain on life support is secondary in this case. Law & Order: SVU has always been about getting justice for trauma survivors.
Thus, Benson will be more interested in piecing together what happened and holding someone accountable than in whether the suspect should be tried for murder or attempted murder.
The Multi-Survivor Angle Is Interesting, Especially Given That One Of Them Is Male
Usually, SVU focuses on one victim, though they may uncover others through investigation and try to get justice by catching a serial rapist.
This case is different because it has two victims, and only one is awake and able to give a statement, yet remembers nothing.
SVU doesn’t often focus on male survivors, but 1 out of 10 men is a victim of a sex crime.
Unfortunately, statistics show that women are in far more danger of experiencing this type of crime, so it makes sense that there are fewer male survivors on SVU. However, it’s important to acknowledge all survivors and tell their stories.
That said, I wonder if the male survivor will ultimately be partially responsible for the crime. SVU often uses this type of plot twist, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
Silva and Bruno Check Out A Hunch
I’m not sure which is more exciting: more Silva and Bruno or the fact that the newest SVU detective is finally getting some airtime.
Silva has been mostly absent since she was introduced on Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1, leaving the audience to wonder what the heck the point was of bringing her on board so early.
Still, her recent brief scene with Bruno was fun, and they had great chemistry.
This time, they’ll work together more extensively as the two decide to follow a hunch together.
It’s not clear whose hunch that is, but let’s hope it pans out.
If it does, it will solidify the two as strong additions to Benson’s team, but if it doesn’t, it will seem to Benson and Fin like a waste of time.
We don’t want that, obviously.
For the past several seasons, Law & Order: SVU has fallen into a bad habit of having female detectives who go rogue, fight with Fin and Benson for several episodes, and then disappear.
Silva is supposed to be permanent, but that’s hard to trust after all the cast changes on SVU, so if one of her first big appearances involves her going off on a hunch that turns out to be a time-waster, that’s a red flag for her longevity on the show.
If we’re going to have detectives butt heads with Benson and Fin, we need to at least get to know them first, so Silva being back-burnered prior to this story will seem like an even worse idea if things go south.
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 6 spoilers don’t say whether the hunch will play out, of course. There’d be no point in watching if we knew that.
Still, given recent history, spoilers like this make me nervous, though I’d love to be wrong about this.
