That’s right, horror lovers. Linda Cardellini is taking on the mantle of one of the most iconic mothers in cinematic history.
Whoever nailed this casting deserves an award because there is no one better to fill the role of a character filled with the kind of crazy you can only get from a mother’s love.
Like any other genre, horror movies come and go, with hundreds dropped into our streaming services each year. However, occasionally, a character comes along and becomes a pop culture icon.
Though Pamela Voorhees only shouldered the original Friday the 13th film, Linda Cardellini is absolutely the actress who will breathe new life into this timeless character.
What made Mrs. Voorhees so legendary was that even when caught, she never dropped her sickly-sweet persona of a mother just trying to protect her son.
It only took about 40 years, but we’re finally getting down to what makes this crazy lady tick, and NBC picked the perfect person to wear her face.
Crystal Lake Allows the Franchise to Put a Decades-Old Debate Over the Fate of Horror’s Favorite Hockey Mask-Wearing Killer to Rest
Linda Cardellini has a big undertaking on her hands with Pam. But if there is anyone who can expertly portray Mrs. Voorhees’s descent into madness, it’s the woman who gave us a perfect live-action Velma Dinkley.
While the series Crystal Lake and the franchise it stems from are firmly based in horror, the story of Jason Voorhees has a lot of layers surrounding the history and mythos.

In a weird and twisted way, the whole story of Jason Voorhees is about a mother’s undying love for her son and the lengths he’ll go to avenge her. It would almost be sweet except for all the decapitation.
For years, fans of the Friday the 13th movies have debated and raged over whether Jason actually drowned when he was a child or if he survived and lived out in the woods.
Hopefully, Crystal Lake will be able to shed some light on these theories, as there are quite a few plot holes there.
Then again, I don’t think anyone would mind if the series went the same route as Chucky and made everything about voodoo and supernatural intervention. Lightning striking a grave to bring Jason back Frankenstein-style? Sign me up!
The bottom line is that in the end, Pam and Jason jumped straight to vengeance over each other without hesitation. So, just how close of a relationship did they have?
And since Crystal Lake will have the same showrunner as It: Welcome to Derry, how twisted were these characters before Jason’s accident?

Linda Cardellini Is the Perfect Actress to Portray Pamela Voorhees’s Cracked Mental State and Wolf-In-Sheeps-Clothing Persona
Here’s why Linda Cardellini is the absolute best choice for Mrs. Voorhees. When we first met Pam in the original film, she was as nice as pie and sweet as can be before it was revealed that she was completely off her rocker.
We need someone who can put on the perfect smile to hide the pile of nuts behind those crazy eyes.
This likely means that Mrs. Voorhees was a genuinely sweet woman before she went crazy, though little is known about her background.
Having recently seen Cardellini in the Netflix show No Good Deed, I can definitely see her playing a woman whose mental state cracks over a tragic loss.
Linda is also no stranger to horror, having starred in The Curse of La Llorona. She’s one of those actresses who can easily slip into any genre or role.

That’s precisely what will be needed for Mrs. Voorhees since I would imagine the show will be about her killing the original negligent camp counselors.
In the movie, Jason’s drowning happened the summer before Mrs. Voorhees got her revenge and about twenty years before Jason’s return.
Cardellini will likely be playing a character teetering on the edge of sanity.
Horror Has Been Finding a Solid Home in Television Over the Last Decade, with Shows Able to Push Past Their Cinematic Time Constraints to Properly Flesh Out Stories
A lot of the details for Crystal Lake are being kept under wraps, but since this is an A24 production, we can count on it being dark and thought-provoking.
The production company just finished another television venture with Rashida Jones called Sunny for Apple TV+, but hopefully, Crystal Lake will be better received.

Another question that has been floating around franchise fans’ minds since news of the series dropped is, “Will the series take place in the ’80s or present day?”
Hey, anything is possible, right? Modernizing the story is not a terrible idea, as it would bring younger generations into the decades-old films.
Horror has slowly been finding new life through televised retellings. Does anyone remember the psychological horror series Bates Motel on A&E?
That series was phenomenal, with excellent writing and talented acting from Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore.
So, before diving into Crystal Lake, if you are unfamiliar with Linda Cardellini’s work, I highly recommend a crash course.
And if you already love the actress like this TV Fanatic does, revisiting some of her classic films and television shows never hurts.

Linda Cardellini Has Been Stacking Her Filmography with Hit Shows for Years, and She’s Bringing All That Talent to Peacock’s Crystal Lake
As mentioned above, Miss Cardellini starred in a little series that Netflix recently released, in which she plays one of the best and most devious characters on the show.
So, of course, the mother of one of films most notorious killers is next on her agenda. In all seriousness, she played one fantastic part in a larger and equally phenomenal production.
Plus, Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano were husband and wife, which automatically made it a must-see series.
And then, when you’re finished with that show, you can hop on over to the search bar for your next venture. You don’t even need to leave the app.
Just type in Dead to Me and sit back for a dark comedy that will have you gasping and laughing, possibly at the same time.

That wickedly delicious series follows Cardellini and Christina Applegate’s characters as they basically try to get away with murder. It’s a fun time for the whole family.
You’re probably already familiar with Linda’s work, as she hasn’t exactly taken a break from keeping her TV career alive and well.
She kicked off her television roles with 3rd Rock from the Sun and has gone on to star in multiple episodes of New Girl, Mad Men, and Hawkeye.
This woman never stops working and gets better with every character she takes on.
From the wife of an Avenger to a cog in the Mystery Machine, Linda Cardellini is that actress you suddenly recognize when you rewatch some of your favorite films and shows.
It wasn’t until last year that I realized Linda Cardellini was in that filthy and disgusting movie Grandma’s Boy. That flick has me in stitches laughing every time I watch it.

However, the actress has steered clear of gross comedy in recent history and is more focused on serious roles that have a lightness to them.
Watch Dead to Me, and you’ll see precisely what I mean.
Suffice it to say, with Linda Cardellini’s casting as Pamela Voorhees, Peacock‘s Crytal Lake will be a killer show that will give us a bloody good time.
