Lucid’s ultra-high-end Air sedan is impressive, but it’s limited in its appeal due to its price and interior layout. The automaker is readying its second vehicle, the Gravity crossover, which may remedy some of those issues, and we recently learned the new vehicle has entered production.
Lucid posted on X last week, saying, “Today marks an exciting landmark for our company. Production of the Lucid Gravity is now underway at our factory in Arizona.” The vehicle can’t come soon enough for Lucid, whose Air sedan made waves upon its introduction but has lost some of its momentum in the time since.
The three-row Gravity EV is expected to offer up to 440 miles of range per charge, but its $96,550 price tag doesn’t make it much cheaper than the Air at launch. Lucid has promised a more affordable Touring trim with a price starting under $80,000, but it’s not expected to begin delivering the cheaper models until later in 2025.
Lucid has posted significant losses, reporting $950 million in the third quarter alone. Its Saudi Arabian backers have pumped cash into the company, but its future remains uncertain. The automaker is projecting to sell just 9,000 Air sedans in 2024, making Lucid’s Gravity and the 2025 model year make-or-break situations.
