Hopefully, everyone hasn’t missed Madeline Matlock too much, but don’t worry — that wily woman is back with Matlock Season 1, which is officially airing on its broadcast schedule!
After a groundbreaking pilot, the show premiered an encore of the first episode, so everyone should be up to date on the big twist by now! If not, watch it and meet me here in an hour.
Suffice it to say that Matlock took the broadcast world by storm and left many viewers baffled with questions. Does she get Commuter Pay for traveling into the city? I’m just kidding.
The real question on everyone’s minds is, how will Madeline be able to keep up the charade at Jacobson & Moore?
Luckily, CBS has not only a promo for Matlock Season 1 Episode 2 but also a sneak peek clip!
In the promo for Matlock Season 1 Episode 2, it’s clear from the start that Madeline’s biggest issue will be staying under the radar. How will she balance coming off as a “feeble” old woman while asking provoking questions?
The writers are way ahead of us, with Madeline already coming under suspicion. Not to worry, though, because she has her grandson at the ready to handle all of her technological needs!
I’m just going to throw this out there, but why did the hands behind Matlock go with such a young grandson? The precocious genius child trope usually only works if they are the protagonist, like in Young Sheldon.
Madeline’s team back home consists of her retired husband and adolescent grandson. It doesn’t exactly inspire the most confidence.
However, if you read my article discussing the pilot’s twists, then you know the creator of Matlock has every intention of wrapping up the big mystery by the end of Season 1.
So, one way or another, the divide between Madeline Matlock and Madeline Kingston will cease to exist. How will the series make the big reveal at the end without giving away who Madeline is?
The episode is titled “Rome in a Day,” and it doesn’t help in the slightest because I don’t see Jacobson and Moore jetting off with their newest employee to Italy.
Not to mention, Madeline needs to stay close to home to keep an eye on the team. Especially if she’s on the hunt for some super-secret files.
One of the most exciting things this series will have to juggle is Matty’s cleverness against an elite law firm.
Can one woman infiltrate a high-profile law firm in this day and age? Someone is going to uncover her secret long before she’s ready to be outed.
My money is on the associates, Billy (David Del Rio) and Sarah (Leah Lewis). They’re the safest characters to make the reveal to. They’ll also work closely with Matty on “Team You Three.”
If that is the case, then Matty will have some eyes and ears around the firm other than her own. And she’ll have more eyes on Olympia. However, Sarah will probably need convincing.
We can, at least, deduce that some of the promo is the next episode by cross-referencing it with the sneak peek CBS was gracious enough to give new fans of the show.

Like you, me, and everyone else under the sun, we have all seen that actress before. Don’t try to deny it! She’s one of those actors you randomly see in film or TV and recognize but never know the name.
I am right there with you, but do not fret — we no longer have to live in darkness! This lovely lady giving Madeline Matlock the third degree is none other than Patricia Belcher.
Learn it, live it, and love it because this woman has kept her name in the entertainment industry for over thirty-five years! She started the same year I was born, if that puts it in perspective.
Patricia Belcher has put in the work! Whenever a show or movie needs a sassy older woman who gives perfect side-eye, they say, “Call Belcher!”
From The Rookie and Lucifer to The Neighborhood and Will & Grace, Patricia has been spread far and wide across the broadcast spectrum.
The real question is, will she be sticking around? A few new faces are in the Matlock Season 1 Episode 2 promo.
It’s common for shows to add to the cast list after a pilot has been picked up, as pilots are filmed separately from the rest of the season.
This is a good heads-up to many viewers about Kathy Bates, so audiences aren’t shocked by her dramatic weight loss.
The actress has been very vocal about her health journey and lifestyle changes. You can see the difference in a brief shot during the promo.

It feels like so much has already happened, yet the journey is just beginning. Grab your butterscotch candies because we hopefully have a long road ahead of us!
