It’s been a turbulent road, but Mayfair Witches hit its stride during Season 2, showcasing that the second entry in AMC’s Immortals Universe shouldn’t be overlooked.
The season came to a chilling conclusion with Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 8 closing up many storylines and leaving us with hints of where the show could go in a potential third season.
At the beginning of the season, I didn’t expect to say that I’m very interested in where the show goes next.
It has been shaky, but it had so many great moments this season that have showcased that the show works when the writing is strong.
The end of the adventure in Scotland was brutal and momentous. Rowan’s motivations have been up for debate because she’s made decisions that have been pro-Lasher so far.

And she certainly did throughout the finale, but mostly because she was now well aware that he wasn’t this wicked man that people she thought for so long.
If anything, she knew she had to find a way to save him and Emmaleth’s children, but she understood the gravity of the situation, which meant she was in mortal danger as a result.
Should Mayfair Witches Have Done a Better Job With Julien?
Julien drugging her and locking her up was expected because we’ve been left mostly in the dark about his wants and needs with stealing Cortland’s body.
Rowan had to serve a higher purpose, which explains why she was allowed to survive their encounter.

Her waking up in the jail cell to find Sip and Paulina was too easy. Kilbride had sketchy rooms peppered throughout, so keeping people locked up, away from one another, should have been high up on Ian and his merry band of idiots’ minds.
That said, Alexandra Daddario played this skeptical iteration of Rowan very well because it was suspect how Sip and Polina miraculously appeared in Kilbride when the going got tough.
Ultimately, the scenes showcased that the show works much better by not trying to shoehorn in this romance between Rowan and Sip.
It was too much too soon, and if the first season had built up more slowly towards it, maybe it would have felt like the logical next step for them to make things physical.

Without Sip and Polina, Rowan wouldn’t have been able to escape and repair Lasher’s fatal neck wound in the nick of time.
Rowan’s back was pushed against the wall, but she ultimately managed to defy the odds on several occasions throughout the finale.
Saving Lasher, only for him to be killed — for good this time — by a flying axe was tough, but it presented a bold leap forward for the narrative.
Lasher’s storyline reached a natural endpoint, even if many unnatural moments led up to his demise.

The harvest consisting of the brutal murder of Lasher and Emmaleth’s children, only for everyone to get magic by drinking their blood, wasn’t on my bingo card.
But after the creepy events that transpired since everyone arrived in Kilbride, it was just par for the course.
Julien Could Be a Great Villain
Julien isn’t the best villain, but he is unpredictable, as evidenced by his plan for Rowan and him to drink the blood and rule together.
It came out of left field, but there has to be a reason why he thought they would be more dominant as allies.

Thankfully, Rowan has learned enough about her family over the last two seasons that she knew to pick her battles because the mission became about saving the children.
It’s interesting how the Talamasca is everywhere, but the show made a massive mistake by allowing Julien to kill Polina off so soon.
As one of the European agents of the mystical firm, there was still so much potential to learn from her about the organization.
There was already enough bloodshed, so killing her off felt cheap and didn’t add anything to the overall narrative.

The kids obviously possess some sort of power that makes them lucrative to any witches looking to increase their influence, so the Talamasca will want to keep them under lock and key.
If we get one, I’m not sold on Julien being the villain of Mayfair Witches Season 3.
Is it Game Over for Rowan and Lark?
Him looking at Rowan from the outskirts of the Mayfair property was unnerving because he’s pretty much replaced Lasher as this person who will probably show up out of nowhere and cause fireworks when everyone least expects it.
My best guess is that the creatives knew there was a real possibility of the show not getting renewed, and this storyline was somewhat rushed to leave things on a satisfying note.

Then, there’s the Rowan and Lark of it all. Ben Feldman has been a fantastic addition to the cast, but it was inevitable that Lark would struggle with the gravity of Rowan’s world now and the perils that plague him.
It’s a good thing they’ve parted ways now because he came close to being murdered in Kilbride countless times, but I can’t shake the feeling that Julien will go after him just to get back at Rowan.
Why didn’t she tell him as much before he drank the memory-wiping tea?
Now that the season is over, it’s clear that it was a major step up in quality from the first, and the hope is that there will be more stories from the Mayfair women.

If the series does get hexed off AMC’s schedule, Interview with the Vampire and The Talamasca could allow some of the storylines to continue.
What are your thoughts on the ending? Do you think it felt too rushed? What’s your take on Lasher’s demise and Julien’s survival? Do you want more of Lark in a potential Season 3?
