Polaris Introduces Slingshot 10

The gloriously insane Polaris Slingshot gets a new special edition trim level to celebrate its tenth year on the market.

Simply called the Slingshot 10, it builds on the top-rung R model with its own colorway, commemorative graphics, and other sundry badging. That paintwork, called Radiant Red Pearl, is exclusive to the package and apparently plays homage to the original Slingshot Red which first adorned the trike all those years ago. Mixed into the scheme is black metallic paint and a few white/teal accents.

Polaris knows its customer base wants some changes to the cabin in limited edition rigs like this, and the brand is only too glad to oblige. The steering wheel is color matched along with adornments on the instrument cluster and glovebox. Come to think of it, this is probably one of the new road-going machines in which the glovebox could actually contain a pair of gloves. Audio gear is courtesy of Rockford Fosgate, complete with headrest speakers and eight-inch side panel speakers. Given the open-air nature of a Slingshot, everyone will probably hear you before seeing you. A lighting system can bump to the tunes and, yes, those seats are heated and cooled.

Under that outrageous hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developed by Polaris and hucked under the ProStar name. The choice of a manual or AutoDrive transmission is yours, though we recommend the stick. The brand says this Slingshot 10 benefits from Brembo-branded front brake rotors which are 14 percent larger than the standard rotors and feature fixed calipers. All trims get a tweaked torque curve this year, along with a remapped tuning for the automatic transmission which should provide a more intuitive and smoother driving experience.

The latter is of no small consequence. If you’ve never wheeled a side-by-side and handled its unique power delivery, the Slingshot could have felt very alien. We look forward to seeing if the changes work as promised.

Starting at $38,999, the limited edition Slingshot 10 is now shipping to dealers in limited-but-unnumbered quantities.
