QOTD: What Should A New Toyota Celica Be?

Today has unofficially become Toyota Celica Day at TTAC, as it looks like the nameplate may be coming back.

The question is, what kind of car should it be?

Looking at Toyota’s portfolio, the brand seems to have the sports-car niches fairly well covered. You have the expensive-ish two-seat Supra on the high end, and the GR86 is an affordable small sportster. There’s also the GR Corolla hot hatch.

So where would a new Celica fit?

I could see it being a slightly larger companion to the GR86 — the GR is a great handler but lacks rear-seat space. Perhaps the Celica could be more powerful with a more-usable rear seat? Maybe it will be a hatchback?

The rumor mill seems to suggest it will be in that ballpark.

What say you?

Sound off below.
