Rivian Beats BMW and Tesla In Consumer Reports’ Owner Satisfaction Rankings

Consumer Reports recently released its rankings of top automotive brands in areas like reliability and owner satisfaction. Rivian scored near the bottom in the publication’s overall ranking, beating Jeep by two points for the next-to-last spot, but interestingly, the EV maker was at the top for owner satisfaction.

Rivian beat top-five contenders BMW, Tesla, Porsche, and Lexus for the top spot, with 86 percent of owners saying they would buy another vehicle. BMW had 73 percent and Tesla had 72, while Porsche landed at 71 and Lexus at 70.

While that’s an impressive feat for Rivian, Consumer Reports noted that automakers with fewer models in their catalogs can have an advantage over others.

“Some automakers have a model or two that ranks among the most satisfying vehicles while the rest of their lineup falls short in the eyes of owners. But a handful of manufacturers consistently please buyers across all or most of their lineups. Consistency matters because automaker lineups aren’t static. Some models barely change over the years, but many undergo redesigns every few years and others are brand-new offerings. An automaker that consistently earns high satisfaction scores across its lineup has a track record of strong redesigns and brand-new models that fulfill owner expectations.”

Consumer Reports’ list had a few other surprises, including Toyota’s position at number 13, especially given Lexus’ number-five position. Stellantis brands had some of the worst showings, with Ram at number 22, Chrysler at 23, and Jeep at 27.
