Smokkelhuis in Wilderness, South Africa

Selling antiques is a difficult business, primarily because you never know what will sell when. This means that those who dabble in the practice often have large collections which they have to store. This particular collector however found a way to merge living and storage.

Het smokkelhuis translates to “the smugglers house” and is a reference to a type of shop that trades in various goods. It is a rather large house which is filled to the brim with various items much like a type of museum. However, what sets it apart from other such places is that you will find a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and when a bedroom in this museum which are all in use by the owner who lives there.

He has an eye for objects and their story and will gladly tell you about whatever draws your eye.
