Some Ford Mustangs Need Second Repair for Recall Problem

Last year, Ford recalled around 30,000 Mustangs for an issue that caused shaky steering, but at least some of those cars may need another trip to a dealer service department. The automaker recently re-recalled a few hundred cars to correct problems arising from the first fix.

Ford Mustangs from the 2022 and 2023 model years are affected by the second recall, which kicked off when Ford started receiving warranty claims last year. The issue was originally fixed under recall number 24V-493, and the new reference number for the second action is 25S11. The new recall states that in the affected vehicles, “the secondary digital torque sensors in the steering gear was calibrated with an inverted polarity. If the primary steering torque sensor experiences a failure of fault and the secondary digital torque sensor’s polarity is inverted, the steering wheel may begin oscillating without warning.”

Steering wheel vibration might not seem like a huge deal, but any loss of control in a Mustang can have serious consequences. Just ask anyone standing outside a Cars and Coffee event in the last 10 years. While 332 Mustangs will need a second-chance fix, Ford has not issued a do-not-drive warning and said it hasn’t recorded any crashes or injuries related to the problem. Ford will alert affected owners by March 31, and the problem will be fixed by a dealer free of charge.
