Subaru Mirrors Toyota With a Significant Price Cut for the 2025 Solterra EV

Price adjustments are some of the most powerful tools automakers have to drive sales on new vehicles, and Subaru just unleashed a price cut that rivals the one issued by Toyota on its related bZ4X.

The 2025 Subaru Solterra lands with a $7,000 price cut compared to 2024’s numbers. However, despite that significant discount, the EV receives no new features or updates otherwise. The base Solterra now starts at $39,915, a $6,500 price cut, while the range-topping model costs $46,915 to start.

The standard configuration includes two electric motors and a 72.8 kWh battery that make a combined 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. While Toyota’s bZ4X is available with all-wheel drive, it requires an added-cost upgrade to get all-wheel drive. The range is unchanged from 2024, reaching 227 miles on a charge. Subaru quotes a 35-minute time to charge from 10 to 80 percent on a DC fast charger, and the Solterra charges at a 100-kW max speed.

Price cuts are nice, and they will likely drum up some sales for Subaru, but they won’t keep the Solterra afloat for long when so many of its closest competitors far outperform its modest specs. The 227-mile range number isn’t awful, but many offer much more than that, and the Solterra’s 100-kW charging speed is less than a third of the numbers offered by many comparably priced EVs.
