The 2020s have been a period of reboots, remakes, and reimaginings, with classic shows finding new audiences amid the various streaming services.
Suits: LA is one of the most highly anticipated spinoffs in years, and our cast and character guide has all the information you need about the folks appearing on the show and the roles they’ll be filling.
This series will come in 2025 and feature familiar faces, including a recurring guest role from the original series.
Suits soared to the most-streamed series in history in 2023 when it became #1 on Netflix, years after its original run on USA from 2011 to 2019.
It will be interesting to see if the show’s predecessor has the same level of success and if the spinoff inspires more attempts or even an original reboot.
Suits: LA seems like it will have a similar plot premise to the original show, with a hotshot team of defense lawyers representing big-money clients.
While the original series focused on lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), the best closer in New York, and his protege conman turned lawyer Mike Ross, Suits: LA will focus on a new law firm led by Ted Black (Stephen Amell).
Ted Black is an LA-based defense attorney struggling to keep his firm open. He started his career as a New York federal prosecutor — possibly with a surprising connection to Harvey.
Along with the change of scenery, Black will also have a career change. While he once worked to put away bad guys, his present circumstances with a failing law firm mean he’s changed gears.
On the West Coast, his defensive legal practice firm focuses on managing major clients who have a lot of money.
Stephen Amell will portray the lead character and firm owner, Black. Amell is most known for his role as Oliver Queen — the Green Arrow — in The CW’s Arrow for eight seasons, The Flash for nine episodes, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow for six.
He’s also had a recurring role in Heels as Jack Spade, portrayed Casey Jones in the 2016 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and played Scott Becker in Private Practice, a failed spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy.
Given Black’s connection to the East Coast, we expect a great story to unfold to tie NYC lawyer Harvey Specter to the West Coast law firm and Ted Black.
Originally, the Suits spinoff did not feature anyone from the original Suits cast, but Gabriel Macht made a surprising revelation on his social media recently that excitingly changed that prediction.
In his promo video, we see someone putting on a monogrammed shirt with the letters HS and slipping into a fancy pair of business shoes with Harvey written inside the sole.
We’re not sure how many times we’ll see Harvey in Suits: LA or what role he’ll play in Black’s new firm. Are they friends? Former colleagues?
Will Harvey help the firm succeed, or will he hinder it?
While Macht is best known for playing Specter for all 134 episodes of Suits — his most recent role — he’s also had numerous others. My favorite was his role as the romantic counterpart to Mandy Moore (This is Us) in Because I Said So (2007).
Stuart Lane will be a close friend and colleague of Black’s. The duo opened their LA law firm, Black Lane Law, 15 years prior.
McDermitt is most known for his role in The Walking Dead (Seasons 4 through 11). He has appeared in numerous movies and series on a single-episode basis.
And he had a recurring role on Retired at 35.
Erica Rollins will be the young, up-and-coming lawyer protege with a strong will and savvy instincts.
Davis is most known for her roles as Erin in Ricky Stanicki, Iris in Florida Man, Cassidy ‘Cass’ Ray in Rebel, and Alyse Craig in Training Day.
Rick Dodsen will play the role of rival to Ted’s young protege. We don’t know much more about his character so far. But be sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter to get notified when we do.
Greenburg is known for being in series like Emperor of Ocean Park, The Mindy Project, How to Make It in America, and October Road.
We can catch Suits: LA airing on NBC on Sundays, starting February 23, 2025. There is no confirmed date for a UK release.
Viewers will also enjoy a few posthumous appearances from the late John Amos as himself.
The Suits spinoff may have a new location and new characters, but it has the same production crew as the original series, from showrunner and creator Aaron Korsh to the same writers and costume designer.
It’s a backstage Suits reunion.
There hasn’t been news of any other Suits alum joining the Suits: LA spinoff. But there has been word that several of the show’s regulars, including Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross), Gina Torres from 9-1-1: Lone Star, and Sarah Rafferty (Donna), are open to the potential of a guest visit.
Who knows. We might even see Meghan Markle pick up her role as Rachel, who left the show before it finished due to marrying into the Royal family.
How do you feel about a Suits spinoff?
