Toyota finally updated the Tacoma for the 2024 model year, after it sold for almost a decade with no significant changes. The new Tacoma sports several improvements over its predecessor, and Toyota is making further revisions for the 2025 model year, though they’re far less dramatic than those seen in 2024.
Toyota added red tow hooks for the TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims, and the truck got an additional pre-wired auxiliary switch in the cabin. The TRD Pro also got a new Mudbath paint color for the model year.
The truck rolls into 2025 otherwise unchanged, retaining its two powertrain offerings. The base turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine makes 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the available hybrid makes 326 horsepower and 465 pounds of torque. Toyota introduced a Trailhunter trim for 2024, which gets the hybrid powertrain, Old Man Emu 2.5-inch shocks, 18-inch bronze wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Rugged-Terrain tires, and RIGID Industries accessories.
Toyota also gave the Tacoma a host of advanced driver aids, including forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, and more. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is available.
The 2025 Tacoma is available in several trims: SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. Two cabs and two bed lengths are available, depending on the trim. Toyota priced the 2025 truck at $31,590 (before destination) to start and said that the first units will start hitting dealers’ lots this winter.
