The Equalizer, featuring Queen Latifah as our favorite crime-fighting vigilante, has returned in its fifth season.
The season opener was bittersweet, but it didn’t waste any time filling us in on what has been happening with our favorite characters.
Will Robyn and Dante find their way back to one another? Is Mel gone for good? Will Miles be sticking around? Is Robyn leaving her team behind?
The Equalizer Season 4 finale left us with many questions. The new season picks up months later, and within minutes of the episode, we already know what we’re working with — a broken team and a lot of turmoil!
It was a tough episode to watch, as we learned that Mel is really done with the team for now. She is working on her mental health. And as she should after we’ve seen Mel like never before — a hysterical mess.
Dante is also out of reach, having left for California for his new job. Let’s hope things go back to the way they were because the team has fallen apart.
We are feeling as terrible as Robyn right now after she was left all alone to fight to save two young foster kids caught up with some serious criminals.
I thought even Harry would stick around to help her through after Mel went to yoga with Delilah, and Dante had his own case to work on.
But Robyn was left to her own devices after taking some major hits from a bunch of weapon smugglers wanted by the ATF.
We can’t blame her for being so negative when she says she can only depend on herself. And when she says there is no team, my heart hurts for her!
The case of the week was interesting yet simple. It was the perfect way to show us how broken everyone on the team is.
It drove home how much the team needs one another. Robyn can hold her own, but she needs backup, and this became evident when she was tied to a chair and failed to bring the bad guys to justice.
On top of being saved by a young kid. That was a first for her!
By the end of the episode, Robyn was physically and emotionally torn up. And to make matters worse, she just made a whole army of enemies after she ran for it to save her own life while they all walked away.
Sure, she saved the kids. But she stole a truck from the NYPD lot filled with contraband weapons, so there is that!
Now, she might be leaving Harry behind because she isn’t returning his phone calls. Of course, this added to his stress with Mel.
Was Aunt Violet’s comments about taking a break foreshadowing Robyn might seriously decide to put the breaks on her underground operation?
Speaking of Aunt Violet, she had some great scenes in this week’s episode!
With Dante gone, Miles is really stepping up his presence and game. He wants Robyn back, and if there was ever a time, it is now.
Robyn is vulnerable and needs someone she can depend on. Miles fills that role, which opens Robyn’s eyes to possibility.
If you recall, Robyn commented last season about giving Miles another chance. It’s hard not to think the writer’s room is toying with our emotions.
Aunt Vi is not happy with any of this. Her directness with Miles was great. She also had some great moments with Delilah while they discussed Mel’s panic attack.
Season 4 left us with some serious questions when it came to Mel, and it looks like we’re getting some answers I really dislike.
I really fell for Mel’s new happy-go-lucky attitude.
But by the end of the episode, we learned Mel was struggling with PTSD and anxiety.
Even Harry seemed fooled by her newfound happiness, having told Dante that she didn’t plan to return to the team.
I thought she would eventually return to the team, and it would be sooner than later. Now, she has much more to contend with than I initially thought.
Mel isn’t the only one torn over her current path in life. Dante seems to be struggling, too, with his new life.
We saw much more of him than I expected in this episode. Our favorite detective appears to be homesick, having talked with Harry several times about Robyn’s latest case.
He was checking in on Robyn and trying to help manage the tough time her team is currently having.
How long can he try to micromanage from the West Coast? We are sure something has to give.
There is also a chance he discovers that Miles has been hanging around more than usual!
What did you think of the season opener?
Are you Team Dante or Team Miles? Do you think Robyn will go solo, or will she manage to get the gang back together?
