The Way Home’s Thomas and Kat: A Love That Defies Logic, Time, and Kat’s Best Intentions

If there’s one thing The Way Home has made clear, it’s that love doesn’t always come wrapped in neat little packages.

Sometimes, it sneaks up on you when you least expect it, defies all reason, and makes you question everything you thought you wanted.

Kat Landry was never supposed to fall for Thomas Coyle. Hell, she’d probably laugh in your face if you told her she was even capable of feeling something for him. But let’s be real — she can deny it all she wants. The rest of us see it clear as day.

Their story didn’t start with stolen glances and whispered confessions. It started with Thomas shooting her. Accidentally, sure, but still. Love at first sight? Absolutely not.

If anything, it was annoyance at first sight — on Kat’s end, at least. She finds Thomas infuriating, reckless, and impossible to trust. And yet, every time she turns around, there he is.

And that’s the thing about Thomas — he’s always there.

He’s not like Elliot, her childhood friend, the safe, predictable option.

Thomas is dangerous. He’s lived a life full of risk, making money in ways that would probably make Kat’s head spin.

He’s not the kind of guy she should fall for. But love isn’t logical, and Thomas? He makes her heart race in a way Elliot never could.

She thinks she has him figured out — this charming rogue with a quick wit and a penchant for trouble — but Thomas sees her in a way no one else does.

She’s sharp, independent, and endlessly stubborn, and instead of pushing back against that, he leans into it.

When she’s spiraling, calling herself an idiot for missing the reality of their situation, he shuts it down immediately. “You are many things, but an idiot is not one of them.

And the thing is? He means it.

There’s no condescension, no false reassurances. Just a man who believes in her more than she believes in herself.

And then there’s that moment. The moment that cements it all, whether Kat’s ready to admit it or not.

“Wherever she goes, I go, even if it is into hell.”

She assumes it’s a performance, just another one of his schemes to convince the town she’s a witch so they’ll turn their suspicions away from Susanna.

But Thomas isn’t playing games. He means every single word. Wherever she is, that’s where he belongs.

How do you fight a love like that?

Kat tries — and she’s still trying. She keeps telling herself that her future isn’t in 1814 and that her connection with Elliot is real and worth fighting for.

But while she’s busy thinking, analyzing, and overcomplicating everything, her heart does something else entirely.

Because when Thomas faked his death at the end of The Way Home Season 2? She was devastated.

And when she found out in The Way Home Season 3 that he let her believe he was dead?

She was livid. Not the kind of anger that comes from indifference but the kind that only comes when someone matters that much.

Kat and Thomas aren’t the kind of couple who ease into love. They crash into it, kicking and screaming.

And even though Kat refuses to say the words, we see it.

We see it in the way she watches him when she thinks no one’s looking and in the way she fights with him because it’s safer than admitting she’s scared of how much she feels.

There’s an entire world — literal centuries — keeping them apart.

But love like this? It doesn’t care about timelines or logic. It burns, it consumes, and no matter how hard Kat tries to resist it, it will not be ignored.

So, the question isn’t if she loves him.

It’s when she’ll finally admit it.
