Volvo Pulls Back the Curtain On the New ES90

Volvo has teased the ES90 sedan a few times, but we’re just now getting a complete look at the upcoming electric hatchback. Balancing design elements and tech from some of the automaker’s latest EVs with strong range and performance numbers, the car is available for order in some global markets now.

The ES90 sports Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer headlights with LED tail lights and rear-window LED lamps. Seven colors and four wheel options are available, ranging in size from 20 to 22 inches, and the car’s large hatch opens to 15 cubic feet of space with folding seats that expand the area to 26 cubic feet.

A panoramic roof comes standard and can be upgraded with electrochromic tinting. Volvo said it blocks up to 99.9 percent of UV rays, and the tinting lets users instantly shade the interior without the need for a physical cover.

Like other Volvo models, the ES90 will be available with various audio and interior finishes based on the trim level. A 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system is the range-topping option, offering high-fidelity sound and headrest speakers. The infotainment system features a 14.5-inch display and Google built-in, which includes Google Maps, Google Assistant, and some Play Store features.

An 800-volt electrical architecture enables fast charging, allowing the car to add more than 180 miles of range in ten minutes. It also offers a 435-mile driving range on the WLTP cycle, but the EPA’s numbers are generally more conservative, so the car will likely have a lower rating when it arrives here.

The ES90 gets a hefty array of sensors, cameras, radar, and LiDAR tech that enable advanced driver-assistance tech. Volvo said the system also helps protect the car when it’s parked, offering occupant sensing, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and more.

Volvo currently offers the ES90 in several European countries and will add more markets later in 2025 and 2026. Pricing details are not yet available.
