Apple TV+ announced today that the global phenomenon Ted Lasso is officially returning to the football pitch for a fourth season that will reunite the team behind the history-making and multi-Emmy-winning comedy series.

Best of all, Jason Sudeikis will reprise his award-winning role as the celebrated Coach Ted Lasso.

When Ted Lasso Season 3 ended, Ted had decided to hang up his cleats and return to the US to spend more time with his son.

He’d been struggling with the distance for a long time, and it seemed like the only outcome. While it was quickly determined that Ted Lasso’s third season may not be its last, we couldn’t help but wonder if the show could go on without the lead character.

As it turns out, we didn’t need to worry.

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ said star and executive producer Jason Sudeikis, “in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Ted Lasso lifted the world up during the COVID crisis, and fans everywhere likely hope his optimism will once again seep into our natural lives.

“Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion, and unwavering belief,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+.

“Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

Ted Lasso Season 4 adds Emmy Award winner Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, 30 Rock) as executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV+.

Sudeikis stars and executive produces alongside Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel.

Brett Goldstein serves as writer and executive producer alongside Leanne Bowen. Sara Walker and Phoebe Walsh will serve as writers and producers for season four, and Sasha Garron co-produces.

Julia Lindon will write for season four, and Dylan Marron will serve as story editor. Bill Lawrence executive produces via his Doozer Productions in association with Warner Bros.

Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also serve as executive producers.

Sudeikis, Lawrence, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt developed the series, which is based on the preexisting format and characters from NBC Sports.

After its global debut on Apple TV+, Ted Lasso broke records and quickly earned praise and acclaim.

Ted Lasso Season 1 became the most Emmy-nominated comedy series in its first season and landed rare back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys for its first two seasons on air.

Of course, Ted Lasso was more than one man.

While we don’t have any indication of casting as of yet, those involved all indicated they’d love for the show to continue. Still, it made many of them stars, and getting them all on the same page now with bolstered careers might be more challenging than it once was.

Brendan Hunt and Brett Goldstein are imperative behind the scenes, so they should have no problem jumping in front of the camera again.

We also want Hanna Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Nick Mohammed, Phil Dunster, Juno Temple, and Toheeb Jimoh back on the pitch, so here’s hoping they’re all as eager as we are for that to happen.

Will Ted Lasso return to its former glory with its fourth season?

All indications point to yet. Ted Lasso was a moment in time that deserves recreation, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead for the characters we’ve grown to love.
