When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 8 Review: The Show Must Go On

Rosemary’s new radio show, “The Daily Dialogue,” caused chaos on When Calls the Heart.

Rosemary and Fiona encouraged Elizabeth to promote her training curriculum on When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 8, but that backfired when a superintendent thought Elizabeth’s ideas were naive.

Meanwhile, Ronald Rockwell visited Hope Valley to inform Rosemary and Fiona that their radio show bored viewers and they needed something new and exciting. Therefore, Rosemary decided to air her play production over the air.

While Rosemary was excited about this new opportunity, her cast was dropping like flies. However, Rosemary never quits.

Neither did Elizabeth or Fiona, even if their spirit took a beating. “The Show Must Go On” demonstrated these women’s fighting spirit and strength in numbers.

Elizabeth and Allie Despised Politics and Bureaucracy

Part of Elizabeth’s problem was she read notes about her curriculum. She needed to show more passion for what she taught.

Superintendent Bennett found ways to poke holes in it by asking for results.

It’s disheartening that the system has done that for 100 years. They care more about measurable academic performance than if the students enjoy learning and how they’re applying it.

Rosemary feared the show got off track, as Elizabeth mentioned the program was new, and Allie addressed the Cattlemen’s Association about grazing rights.

Superintendent Bennett: While I appreciate your ambition, without measurable standardized results, it’s simply not practical to expect every teacher to find a math lesson in the path of a butterfly.

Elizabeth felt offended when the Superintendent implied that her program only worked in a quaint schoolhouse.

She was naive to think it would apply to public education, which rattled her.

Allie also struggled with the political system. When she tried to help Lucas present the proposal, McGinty cut her off, implying she was a little girl who didn’t belong there.

The situation worsened so horribly that even Edwin tried to comfort her.

Henry gave the teens some wise advice, though, when he mentioned McGinty would screw up eventually, and they should be ready but not go looking for it.

Rosemary and Fiona Can’t Be Boring, but That Isn’t the Worst Problem

Rosemary has always prided herself on being entertaining and dramatic, so being deemed boring was a fate worse than death.

That’s why she desperately suggested airing her play over the air before anyone was prepared, but she never dreamed they would need to perform the next day or that half of her cast would become ill.

It was like a comedy of errors. All the men went to the hot springs to improve their vocal cords, but they caught Mike’s cold and got worse.

Rosemary’s meltdown was hilarious, and I loved how all the women rallied around her to find a solution.

Women Can Do Anything if They Work Together

Minnie surprised everyone by reciting Jack’s lines in the middle of the cafe.

Maybe it was unheard of, but women have portrayed male roles for years. Most often, a female depicts Peter Pan in plays.

Therefore, Minnie’s portrayal of Jack and Rosemary as Algernon worked beautifully. Mei joined in the fun and played Mike’s part, too.

Rosemary finally swallowed her pride and admitted she needed Ava’s help. Even after four episodes, it’s challenging to discern Ava’s motives.

Does she enjoy these women and genuinely admire them, or does she have an ulterior motive for getting close to them?

This was probably the funniest version of The Importance of Being Earnest. Minnie sold the show. She had the best expression and excelled at everything.

Fiona also had her confidence dashed when she heard the boring radio show. While she told Faith she didn’t care about doing radio and longed to do more, Fiona came alive by planning topics to reach viewers.

She only accepted Harold’s proposal because she thought it was the ticket to her success. She didn’t love him.

While that was true of the times a century ago, Fiona would never fit that mold. She’s fierce and needs room to fly.

Thankfully, Fiona had that chance when Ronald Rockwell returned and offered Rosemary and Fiona a bigger show. She couldn’t wait to begin her next adventure.

That show helped Elizabeth because many teachers wrote letters to her and the station expressing support and ideas for helping their students.

Sometimes, it takes a village of women to build a thriving community.

McGinty’s Motives Are Greedy, But Lucas Doesn’t Like Losing

McGinty rubbed me the wrong way, so I wasn’t surprised he enjoyed milking his neighbors for money to use his pasture. He seemed controlling and greedy.

No wonder he didn’t want Allie and Oliver sniffing around. They might learn something, so he threatened everyone to veto Lucas’s proposal, or he’d collect on the loan with back pay and interest. What a creep.

Edie is difficult to read, but at least she told Lucas the truth. She didn’t want him or the children hurt since McGinty hates losing.

Has she met Lucas? He hates losing, too, mainly when it deals with politics. He won’t give up, and he saw how McGinty treated Allie.

Hopefully, Lucas and Edie will eventually mend things and work together to bring down this creep. Part of me still likes them.

As a final thought, a new stranger arrived in Hope Valley. We don’t know much about him, but he was interested in the kids’ conversation with Henry.

Could he be related to McGinty as a spy? We’ll need to see if he pops up again on When Calls the Heart.

Over to you, Hearties.
