Will Trent excels, partly because of the team dynamics, and those were finally back in rare form.
Will Trent Season 3 Episode 3 showed how much we missed Will and Faith’s banter as they worked together to solve Will’s first case: poisoning and murder at a family-owned company.
When Angie played Nancy Drew at Waldorf Estates, she asked Michael for help, and he recruited Franklin, too, because the APD sticks together.
We hadn’t seen much of Angie yet, and this was a chance to see how much she had changed.
Angie Always Finds Domestic Violence Cases, and She Can’t Turn Away
Poor Angie. She always finds the wounded birds that need help. This time, it was literally. No one expected the murder at Waldorf Estates to be a male swan.
Angie felt as trapped there as the swans did. As she talked to a spirited little girl, she saw her aunt Alma, who had a black eye, Angie’s radar went up.
This worsened when she found a finger in the swan’s beak and wanted to learn more, so she enlisted Michael’s help.
Michael: She asked me to do her a favor, so we’re doing her a favor. You might say we’re giving her a hand.
Franklin: This is nasty.
Again, Michael jumped right in and recruited Franklin and Pete, and it was endearing to see the men video chat Angie and support her.
The problem was they couldn’t find much beyond that the finger belonged to a middle-aged male, and there was chicken poop on it, too.
That was enough for Angie to snoop more and learn that Alma’s husband, Davis, owned a farm. Davis then tried to rush Alma away without talking to Angie again. Talk about suspicious.
Angie Has Learned to Signal to For Help
While Angie still landed in danger, she learned from her past and knew how to signal Michael for help. I’ve always enjoyed their friendship, but “Find a New Pond” cemented that bond’s depth.
Michael knew how reckless Angie could be and how close she was to being reinstated, so he warned her to be cautious and to do it for him. These two own my heart even more.
He immediately called her when Pete matched that DNA to a handyman who worked at Waldorf Estates. John had raped and murdered a teenager.
I loved how Angie casually mentioned she was locked in the shed with him, not wanting to alert John but simultaneously warning Michael.
Naturally, the story didn’t end there. While John was a creep, he wasn’t the one who abused Alma, and he had witnessed Davis abusing her, so Angie was still on the warpath.
I love Angie, but going to Davis’s farm without backup was reckless. She could have died or killed another man in self-defense, and then what would have happened to her job?
Luckily, she sent Michael a photo of her location right before Davis found her. Angie was a badass and used a frying pan as her weapon of choice.
She held her own in that fight with that abuser. She wasn’t letting another one win, and she did the right thing this time – bound his wrists and waited for someone else to arrest him officially.
I’m relieved Angie is back on the force because I’ve missed her, but I don’t think she’ll ever play by the rules ultimately.
She’s too passionate about the victims, but at least she stood up for herself. I think having Michael around will also help.
The Complications of Dealing with Family at Work
Since the series began, Will, Faith, and Amanda have been like a “found family” in their own way. It was humorous having Amanda and Faith listen to Nico yell at Will. They probably agreed he abandoned his friends and family, so he needed to hear those harsh truths.
Amanda was also in a difficult position. She had never raised a child before, so she finally had to listen to Faith instead of giving her advice.
Faith had to bite her tongue when Amanda came through for her and found her a new condo with no bids. The only catch was that someone died there, but that didn’t phase Faith as much as other interested parties.
Watching the team banter with each other again ignited some much-needed humor. Will was such a fashionista, and while we miss scruffy Will, this one is like home.
Family businesses are always complicated, which seemed evident immediately among the Sorvano’s. At a board meeting, two siblings and one of their assistants were poisoned.
When Will and Faith began interviewing the brothers, it became apparent why they despised dealing with rich, entitled people. The middle brother, Rocco, tried Faith’s patience as he concluded someone always threatened them.
It seemed suspicious that her lawyer would not let her speak when the GBI contacted the oldest sister, Francesca. Most families have hidden secrets, but the Sorvanos could destroy lives.
Again, Will added some fun to the case when he decided they should re-enact the cast and asked Caroline, Franklin, and Michael to assist him. Seeing them all in their masks as they put the pieces together was hilarious.
Whoever did it wasn’t planning Sophia to take the poisoned grapefruit juice; she was collateral damage.
I’ve never seen Faith so upset about accidentally accusing Olivia.
She feared she would still be charged because she wasn’t wealthy like the Sorvano family. Faith knew that she and Will understood not having the resources to fight for themselves.
Francesca felt the same since she and Rocco got into a vicious fight in the middle of the GBI with her defending Oliva. Will sensed she knew something but was hesitant to air the dirty laundry.
Will: Sometimes loving people means letting them take responsibility for the things they break.
Sadly, Will learned that the hard way. We weren’t expecting Marchello to keep cleaning up his brother’s messes, including a murder.
When Jacinta threatened to reveal Rocco’s past, Marchello did it again. He didn’t expect their sister to die, too. That will be a heavy price to pay for protecting one sibling.
Nico Felt Torn Between Will and Angie
Naturally, Will assumed things would return to normal once he moved back to Atlanta, but Nico still acted coolly toward him. In addition, Betty got into more of Will’s stuff than before.
While Faith implied it was dog-like behavior, Nico’s assessment wasn’t far off.
Betty probably missed Will. She had gotten used to going on cases with him in Tennessee and spending more time with him.
Now, it’s business again, and Betty and Nico feel neglected.
Will: You know I’m devoted to that dog and you.
Since Nico is so close to Will, we sometimes forget that Angie met her first and introduced her to Betty and Will. That’s why it was so meaningful that Nico brought Betty to visit Angie at work.
Even though Nico was mad at Will, she sensed Will felt sad and tried to reconcile the two.
There was too much baggage, though, and it looked like Will and Angie would have to share Nico and Betty.
We’ve seen couples have custody rights to dogs, and while Betty is ultimately Will’s dog, Angie also formed a bond with her. It also seemed that Will didn’t want to admit he missed Angie.
