Will Trent Season 3 Episode 5 Spoilers: Evelyn Mitchell Goes Missing

We’ve wanted Faith’s mom to return for more than a year. We didn’t want her kidnapped.

Spoilers indicate that Evelyn Mitchell (LisaGay Hamilton) surprises her daughter Faith on Will Trent Season 3 Episode 5, but her past misdeeds catch up to her, and she goes missing.

As avid Karin Slaughter fans will recognize, this case may loosely follow her Will Trent novel “Fallen.” It’s been a long time since the ABC series pulled a case from the book series.

This one heavily features Faith, Evelyn, and Amanda. We can’t wait to dive into the Mitchell family drama.

Evelyn Mitchell Returns to Surprise Her Family and Her Past Catches Up to Her

The weekly promo shows Evelyn Mitchell arriving to surprise Faith. While Faith and her mom love each other, their dynamic has always been interesting. I’m curious to see what prompted this visit or if she merely missed her daughter.

Additionally, Evelyn could be in town to meet Amanda’s foster daughter, Sunny. While she’s not explicitly mentioned in the spoilers, Faith grew up thinking of Amanda as her aunt, so Sunny will likely grow to consider Evelyn the same way.

After their surprise reunion, Faith appears to go about her daily life only to return home and find her house broken into.

There is nothing worse than feeling like your home was violated and they took something precious, and you don’t understand why.

Faith is less aware of her mother’s past in the books, while in the ABC series, she knows more. However, Evelyn and Amanda still never shared how terrible things were; now, someone has Evelyn.

“Fallen” was such a popular book because it examined Evelyn and Amanda’s time on the force and how being a female cop in the 1980s differed from modern times.

Viewers saw some of their stories in Will Trent Season 1 Episode 12 and Will Trent Season 1 Episode 13. Hopefully, Young Evelyn and Amanda return since it may help to fill in some details, including who may be after her.

It’s likely someone who was involved in taking the company funds and was angry that Evelyn only lost her job while they were in prison. It also teases the criminals into thinking she has a rare coin.

While I recognize Will Trent only has so many sets, that dungeon looks similar to where James Ulster kidnapped and tortured Angie. Could he have another minion, or is that a coincidence?

This Case Will Allow Iantha Richardson to Shine as She Balances Family and Her Career

(ABC/Screenshot)

Will Trent Season 3 has allowed Iantha Richardson to shine and showcase Faith as a badass GBI agent. She’s about to tackle her most challenging case: finding her mother.

Almost every character has searched for a family member despite it being a conflict of interest, but it will be difficult as Faith learns more about her mom’s past.

Thankfully, her mom worked as a cop and left them a trail of clues, which included an old photo of her as a cop, so the suspect was likely related to an old case.

That could be helpful or open a new can of worms as Evelyn and Amanda worked many controversial cases in the 1980s.

Faith will need to think and act like a detective with a daughter’s heart as she interviews witnesses, some of which are probably dangerous and hold long-time grudges.

I’m excited to learn more about Evelyn’s past and how it will affect her relationship with Faith.

Now that Faith has worked on the force longer and seen more, she may have more compassion for her mother.

This Case Will Bring the GBI to the Center as Will and Amanda Deal with Past Regrets

All of the available spoilers point to this being a heavily GBI-centered episode. Evelyn’s kidnapping is likely to bring up some guilt and regret for both Amanda and Will.

They led the investigation that forced her retirement. If that investigation had tipped off those criminals that Evelyn had access to a rare coin, they’d never forgive themselves.

Ramon Rodriguez and Sonja Sohn excel at emotional material, so it will be refreshing to watch them balance their guilt, comfort Faith, and help with the investigation.

Will Trent has excelled at filling in the blanks, so hopefully, they’ll show some flashbacks, including of some of the perpetrators who want Evelyn to pay.

We’re unsure if this case will be wrapped up quickly or will last several episodes as many book-related arcs have.

We don’t want Evelyn Mitchell to suffer, but we’d love to have her on-screen longer.

What a dilemma.

When this wraps up, the GBI will need a skilled lawyer to put those scumbags away, so we may see more of ADA Alba if she helps them again.
