Will Trent Season 3 Episode 7 Review: The Surprise Killer Harmed One of the GBI’s Own

While the first part of this arc was weak, this week’s Will Trent was one of the strongest episodes yet.

Audiences were led to think that John’s brother-in-law framed him, only to have the actual killer harm Caroline and threaten Marion.

Will Trent Season 3 Episode 7 felt like a twisted murder mystery, with everyone trapped together during the storm, never knowing the killer’s next move.

(Wilford Harewood/ Disney)

It featured intrigue as Will and Angie headed the case like old times. They might not be dating anymore, but they still made great partners.

This installment also utilized Will Trent‘s supporting cast as Amanda and Pete rushed to save Caroline. We learned more about Pete in this episode than in the last three seasons.

This was the correct way to use your cast.

Will and Angie Excelled at Their Teamwork

It had to be frustrating for Angie that no one believed her hunches and new evidence except Will, but everyone agreed to investigate more once he vouched for her.

This case allowed them to take the lead together.

(Zac Popik/Disney)

In only a few short weeks, Will and Angie have cemented their partnership again. They’re not a couple, but they still knew each other’s quirks and can joke about it.

I never thought we would see that again after their emotional blow-up on Will Trent Season 3 Episode 4, but now they joked about Will’s dating life.

Angie: Here’s a question. Have you ever considered dating someone who doesn’t work in the building?

Will: We work 80 hours a week. Where am I supposed to meet people?

Angie: Stop face swapping with your dog and download a dating app like everyone else.

It was probably the most light-hearted moment of the show before they found Mia’s dead body in the elevator shaft with them.

Elevator scenes are my favorite, and these two had some fun, awkward scenes in there before they became violent crime scenes.

There is nothing like a dead body to prove John’s innocence since he was in jail when this murder occurred.

(Zac Popik/Disney)

These two worked diligently to prove John’s innocence and learn who kept lurking and attacking their friends.

It demonstrated that Will and Angie could still work together and be friends. They had to adjust to their new normal.

All Original Signs Led to John’s Brother-in-Law, Keenan

Initially, it looked like John’s brother-in-law, Keenan, committed the murders and framed him. He had a massive hatred towards John and didn’t want his wife to associate with him.

That controlling behavior threw off many signals, especially since he didn’t want anyone to read those journals citing old evidence.

(Wilford Harewood/ Disney)

Will was convinced Keenan was guilty when he found him by Caroline’s body with a bloody knife. He nearly lost it since everyone loved Caroline.

His denial only angered Will and Angie more, and the only thing that cleared him was Pete suggested that the attacker was left-handed.

John was also convinced Keenan was involved since they both knew Alice years ago, and they all did drugs years ago. He thought Keenan hated him ever since, but John had another enemy.

Rafael Learned He Couldn’t Hide Anything From Will

Will Trent is the best. He played Rafael Wexford like a fiddle, pretending he needed his old pal’s help with the case.

(Zac Popik/Disney)

Will never would have let a civilian, let alone a former criminal, assist him, but he wanted Rafael to squirm when they were in tight spaces.

That made him admit everything, including that the gold watch was part of a business deal and he had taken over as leader of the Grovepark Boys.

I love that Will already knew that, but he wanted to hear Rafael admit it. Well played, indeed.

A Bigger Threat Lurked in the GBI Offices

I hate that my suspicion was correct. DA Freddy Markovic seemed too eager to keep John Shelley in prison, while Marion agreed to look at new evidence.

(Zac Popik/Disney)

Freddy seemed relieved that Keenan Peters didn’t recognize him. Since he interviewed the Peters alone, we have no idea if he threatened them, too, since Keenan looked terrified later, or if he merely hated being accused by the cops.

Angie and Will deduced simultaneously that Freddy committed all the murders, but he had already terrorized multiple people at the GBI offices.

Since the power was out, he could easily lurk and attack people. He used his power and knowledge as the district attorney to get vengeance.

Poor Marion became caught in the crosshairs since she’d just heard he was the lead suspect, and when Freddy realized she knew, he tried to eliminate her.

Freddy: When John went to prison, everything changed.

Marion: No Freddy, please.

Freddy: I felt power. Who wants to be noticed when you can do whatever you want?

(Wilford Harewood/ Disney)

Freddy developed a God complex after being ignored in high school, and it was heartbreaking to watch him attack all these women in Will’s life. Will wouldn’t let him hurt anymore, rescuing Angie and then running to comfort Marion.

Marion will likely have PTSD since she trusted Freddy. They were colleagues, so that was a real gut punch when he attacked her. She fell apart in Will’s arms.

Pete Received a Backstory as He Rushed to Save Caroline’s Life

Pete has always been in the background as the coroner. He finally got his chance to shine when Caroline got stabbed, and the ambulance was delayed because of the storm.

Amanda: Everyone stay calm and do your jobs. Will, you’re get a confession out of that dirtbag, and Pete, you’re going save Caroline’s life.

(Wilford Harewood/ Disney)

Poor Pete. He was so nervous, and Amanda kept everyone calm. Usually, Amanda acts tough, but this episode showed how much she cared about Caroline.

She had planned a surprise party for Caroline’s birthday, so it seemed extra awful that Caroline got hurt that day.

Pete had been working in the morgue ever since he messed up on a simple appendectomy years ago. He couldn’t let it go and figured working on dead patients would be more straightforward.

That’s why he panicked when he thought he had finally stitched Caroline up, and she still bled out. Poor guy. He thought he would lose another patient, one everyone adored.

(Zac Popik/Disney)

Seeing how hard he’d worked to save her, even though he hadn’t worked on live patients in years, showed how much Pete would do for people.

Hopefully, we’ll learn even more about him.
