Three cases in one show. That’s a record for Will Trent.
It was wise for the series to balance the seriousness of Will’s child trafficking case in Will Trent Season 3 Episode 8 with Ariana Madix’s guest appearance and case with Det. Ormewood.
Sometimes, these cases get too depressing, and viewers need humor and entertainment to lighten the mood. Will Trent has excelled at balancing that, but this episode, in particular, walked a fine line.
The GBI dealt with finding a little girl, while Det. Ormewood and Angie dealt with different cases and issues.
Dealing with Ariana Madix helped Michael move on with his life. While it wasn’t an official centric, this episode focused more on his life and healing than any other in Will Trent Season 3.
Poor Will. He wanted to enjoy his day off with Betty, and he ended up witnessing a child abduction.
We’ve seen that cold open so many times when an agent has regretted not jumping in or thought a helpless child signaled them.
It’s sometimes challenging to discern when it’s a predator, but finding that child’s jacket in the men’s room threw Will into a frenzy.
Almost everyone hates a child predator, so seeing someone assist Will in mowing that creep down was almost amusing, except it caused Mr. Jenner to go after the GBI.
He wouldn’t win because they kept stacking the evidence against him, and Amanda and Marian had connections.
This was a horrific case for everyone. It triggered Will, and Marion was dealing with PTSD after being attacked. But she wanted to support Will since she realized how he was coping.
Kidnapping a child would have been awful, but the GBI soon suspected that this case was part of a more elaborate trafficking ring.
The GBI found footage of a woman posing as Abigail’s mother. No one at airport security thought to check if the name Eleanor Fielding provided matched Abigail’s real name.
It’s disheartening, but women doing hand-offs would be less suspect than men. The main clue that worked in the GBI’s favor was the footage of Mr. Jenner sitting with Eleanor Fielding on the flight to Seattle and near them on the return flight.
He knew way too much about circumstantial evidence and what type would screw him. It’s no wonder Will lost it on him.
Will is generally a calm agent who follows the rules, but children in danger are his kryptonite. He never wants any child to feel unsafe like he did as a child.
Seeing how Abigail’s mother was beaten and had her daughter disappear triggered him.
Will: If I don’t find this girl, I’m going to think about it for the rest of my life.
He blamed himself for not helping quickly enough and wanted to punish the creep for not cooperating and giving Abigail to another predator.
Therefore, the GBI had to beat him at his own game. I love how they made him sign a confession, promising they wouldn’t press charges, and the FBI magically appeared.
Side note — Wasn’t Betty cute comforting Abigail? She’s been busy this season.
We’ve all seen it when an actor plays an over-the-top version of themselves. When Ariana Madix held an intervention for one of her friends and needed Det. Ormewood’s help, things went wrong.
Whether you’ve watched reality television or when everyone tried to intervene with Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills 90210, you know interventions never go as planned.
Sure enough, her friend Reena reacted by causing a fight and throwing pepper spray at Det—Ormewood, who wasn’t as skilled at security as he was at being a detective.
Ariana Madix: Help me find my friend, and I’ll double your pay, Perry Mason.
One of the running jokes was that she couldn’t decipher between lawyers and detectives. It was hilarious.
That country bar was impressive, and so was how she handled the bartender. Instead of needing a translator, she conversed with him in Cantonese enough to learn the boss would return shortly.
In those few minutes, we learned more about Det Michael Ormewood than we have the rest of the season, including that he suffers from headaches.
Ariana Madix loved being in charge of getting him on that dance floor and getting him to open up. While she’s been on Dancing With the Stars, we must petition for Jake McLaughlin to appear. He’s got moves!
That dance scene was so entertaining that it was disappointing when they returned to solving the case.
The fantastic moves continued, though, as Ariana did acrobatics like Spiderwoman to clear the building and let Michael in so they could save Reena.
It was never meant to be easy, as many people high on drugs were being stashed there. Both women tried to apologize for not being there for each other while Michael rushed them out of there.
Not fast enough. The drugpin handler complained that Reena still owed him 5K, and to avoid either Reena or Michael getting hurt, Ariana handed over her gold earrings.
I believe in sisterly love, but who does that? Only in primetime television would a cop be able to get those back.
Part of Ariana Madix’s mission helped Michael to move on. While we would enjoy seeing her again since they sizzled, there’s the possibility he could date Faith.
Since the beginning of Will Trent Season 3, the series has hinted that Michael and Faith have become close. Now she’s moved into his place.
Are they merely close friends who banter, or have they taken a leap of faith?
Scott Foley’s introduction as Seth McDale felt more like a meet-cute with Angie and less like a case. That wasn’t necessarily bad since it was a hit-and-run, but it looked like the beginning of a Hallmark Channel movie.
Angie was in the right spot when some idiot ran him over. She didn’t know who he was but offered to take him to the hospital.
Angie: I have a soft spot for broken people and wounded animals. I’m not sure which you are.
I had wondered how Angie would pair with a doctor, but Dr. Seth McDale was more laid back. While he rushed to save other patients in the ER, he still struggled and admitted he used to be an addict.
That was something Angie could relate to. While she doesn’t usually work in traffic violations, she caught the man who hit Seth, and celebrating together seemed like a natural conclusion.
While I’m a massive Will and Angie fan, there’s something sweet between Angie and Seth that could be fun. Erika Christensen and Scott Foley had a natural connection.
